What it involves
Munster Drain Services uses CCTV surveys to investigate problems and scope solutions to structural and serviceability problems as they exist in sewers, drains and culverts before considering any repair or remedial solution, it is vital to have as much knowledge as possible about the existing system and pipe. The major part of this investigation generally takes the form of a CCTV survey.

We have van mounted crawler CCTV unit and mobile Push rod cameras to suit the various diameters, lengths and depths of pipe encountered.
All units operate with Win-Can VX software allowing for the provision of reports and drawings in multiple formats including Win-Can database:
Our Process
• Create a safe working area and position equipment appropriate to manhole location and customer vehicle routes / working areas
• If appropriate clean pipe being surveyed using appropriate jetting technique and equipment
• Put camera in the pipe at correct lens height, set pipe length to zero and use appropriate chamber naming convention
• Survey the pipe, recording all observed defects and associated observations.
• Quality assure the survey before publishing to customer in an agreed format
• Contact the customer immediately if any major defects or unexpected results are discovered.
Requirements
• Safe chamber access / entry in relation to size of pipe, chamber and equipment being used
• Duration varies in relation to pipe depths, lengths and the access points
• By exception, over-pumping / tankering for high flows.
• 100mm – 1000mm diameter
• 1200 – 1800mm use man entry survey
What will you get from a CCTV survey?
The key to successful pipe problem investigation and resolution is the initial investigation works. Consequently, a detailed and quality pipe camera inspection is critical.
On completion, you can normally assess the cause of the problem. For example, to undertake an effective straightforward drain lining system, the fundamental requirements before starting are that the pipe / area to be lined
• Is free of obstructions or diameter reductions,
• Has a hydraulic characteristic fit-for- purpose.
If there are obstructions, it may be possible to remove them using very high pressure water jetting or robotic cutting techniques. Pipes that have collapses or been crushed are rarely suitable for lining, unless a spot excavation repair can be carried out for the defective area.
The CCTV inspection should only be carried out by technicians trained to the latest MSCC standards. Standard practice within the industry is to provide a video file and classification report in Wincan VX or equivalent format, with individual defects scored in addition to full length summaries. Typical issues the surveys will identify include: –
